Here’s a special podcast made by one of the pioneers and masters of the french disco sound, Bernard Fèvre aka Black Devil. In the 70’s he produced 3 albums “Suspense”, “The Strange World Of Bernard Fevre”, “Cosmos 2043”, which remained confidential as they were library music and his disco masterpiece “Disco Club”. This album which is still very influential nowadays and allowed Bernard Fèvre to gain a late but highly deserved recognition when a EP « Disco Club » was re-released on Richard D.James’ label Rephlex. During his carreer, he always worked has a musician, in his early years as a member of the pop band Les Francs Garçons or solo. Leaving the music-hall, he started producing electronic music for adverts and radio jingles. As he says « I always managed to survive thanks to music, but not my music »…
Now it’s a done deal : after Rephlex’s highlight, many EPs and six albums followed on London imprint Lo Recordings, the re-release of « Disco Club » opening the series in 2006. Since then, Black Devil has been booked all over the world and is still on tour. Bernard Fèvre is definitely not a DJ, but we wanted to get something from him, so we requested a selection of his influences through the years. Here’s the result, a mixture of pop standards, classical, jazz, rythm’n blues and many other stuff! Something different from what we’re used to sharing on LYO. Thanks a lot to Black Devil for this special selection. Enjoy!
